A relatively new species, Nepenthes Weda is a true lowlander that grows on ultramafic soil on Bukit Limbur. In my experience, it grows best in lowland conditions with low light levels. I have tried growing this species on coco chips but it appears to do much better on ultramafic media. Nepenthes Halmahera also grows in the same location but tends to occupy grasslands and areas with higher light levels. Any attempts I've made at transitioning the species to intermediate conditions have failed. Although the species grows at 400-1000m, it's worth noting that temperatures near Papua New Guinea can get quite hot no matter the altitude.

This species grows in the weda bay, which is controlled by the Weda nickel corporation. Unfortunately, much of the habitat has been destroyed by the nickel mining. The current status of the species is unknown. The upper pitchers of this species look quite nice and remind me somewhat of N. hamata uppers.
